Quilts and Fiber Art
"Every time my brush touches white cloth and floods it with brilliant color, a thrill runs through me. Even though I've dyed hundreds of yards of cloth, I have never tired of the magic of transforming fabric. So it is natural that all my quilts are filled with hand-colored cloth."
"I came to quilting through the back door--as a teacher of fabric dyeing and painting at quilt conferences. Once immersed in the quilters' world, however, I began to catch their enthusiastic spirit. So now I've combined my love of painting, printing, and dyeing cloth with quilting and make my own art quilts."

Inspiration
"Awed by the beauty of its fan-like fins, I made a stencil from a print of a real flying fish so I could reproduce the image on fabric. I wanted the quilt to reflect the moment when a flying fish breaks through underwater flowers and leaps into the moonlight with glistening wings."

Inspiration
"My grandmother loved to weave rag rugs. I spent many happy hours with her cutting old clothes into strips which she would weave into colorful rugs. I know she taught me to love textiles, and I often think when I'm admiring a particular piece of fabric that I'm seeing its beauty with her eyes."

Don't Throw Away My Dolls
36" w x 24" h
|
Inspiration
"This memory quilt incorporates images from a visit with my mother and my sister and her family in Minnesota – my childhood doll, a lace doily, buttons, my nephew's fish. The quilt preserves a story of that visit."
"Don't Throw Away My Dolls" was displayed in "Quilt Voices", at the University of Delaware, September 9 through December 9, 2005. "Quilt Voices" was an invitational exhibit of quilts selected from "Quilters Save Our Stories", a collection of interviews conducted by the Alliance for American Quilts,
